Question of the day

"Daddy, can God make me into a train?"

This was followed by angry tears when I told him that God didn't work that way.  "Besides," I said, "Mommy and I would miss you.  If you were a train you couldn't come to our house, you'd have to sleep outside on the train tracks."

The response: "I don't want a house!  I want to sleep outside!"

Tonight Myles called me upstairs. I came up to find him with a handful
of liquid soap. "I want to give you a foot massage.". Touched I
thanked him for the offer but that you had to use lotion not soap for
foot massages. He goes and turns on the tub, rinses off the soap, goes
and gets the baby lotion and runs into the room I was in and tells me
to take off my shoes. I lay back and let my 3 year old plop cold blobs
of baby lotion on my feet and calves. It was awesome.
And just as we were falling asleep tonight Myles pops over to tell me
that he is planning on giving me all his toys for a whole week.
Being pregnant just got a whole lot easier tonight.
My son is a good person.

Happy Birthday!

Myles was still sleeping when I left for work this morning, so he and Mommy came to visit me for a little celebration.

The cupcake was one he picked out himself, and after they left, the cupcake remained but the frosting did not. I guess the boy knows what he likes.

And tonight we'll be eating a dinner of Myles's choice as well: corndogs!

Fun in the corn

Sunflower farm

Today we hung out at sunflower farm. Myles has been on the waiting
list for their preschool age program. There are only 5 slots in the
whole thing and I happen to get word today that he will likely get in
this fall He will go 2 1/2 hours one day a week. He will work with
cows, horses, pigs, goats, chickens, various crops. Plus there are tree
houses, huge swings, and a corn storage that is fun to play in. I wish
I could go to school there!

Myles's other blog

If you're reading this post, chances are you're interested in what's going on in the life of a boy named Myles.  So I thought I'd take a moment to direct you to another, more frequently updated site that has postings about Myles's day-to-day adventures with his best friends Willa and Jackson.

It's been going for a while, but I recently learned that a number of folks weren't aware of its existence, so here it is: http://outwithallyson.blogspot.com/

And if you forget it, there's a link on the right side of this page for the most recent posts.

Dry run Easter

I never regret practicing holiday events. Today we discovered
(sometimes accidentally) all sorts of interesting things such as...
what happens if you taste the dye, mix all the dyes together, drop
your eggs or squeeze them hard. Also we moved past the fear of
blemishing white shells, met the Easter Bunny, opened little plastic
eggs filled with 1 jelly bean that were gobbled on the spot. We
discovered what the paper grass in the basket tastes like. We also
confirmed that hard boiled eggs, no matter how colorful, do not have
candy inside. It took only 5 eggs carefully shelled by our children to
confirm this point. We also practiced egg finding etiquette and
making sure things were fair.

Coconut

Willa finally had a chance to check out the wonders of the coconut.
