High Chair

Myles is spending a little time in the high chair these days.

He doesn't last long, but he has fun while he is there!

Yawp!

Myles is 5 months old and is the joy of our lives. Right now he seems to be entering a whole new world of "babyness." Some of the old favorites are still guaranteed to bring joy, but now he seems anxious to learn as fast as he can, and is easily frustrated by those tasks still outside his reach.

He longs to be able to manipulate his blocks, to stack his stacker and to crawl like the others. He will yell and cry if he can't do what he wants. However, if you try and take him away from the activity or situation he gets really mad and tries to jump out of your arms to get back to those tasks. His intrepid nature makes him a natural for baby swear words. As doting parents we admire the tenacity and passion.

Speaking of reinforcing dubious behaviors. Enjoy this film of Myles giving a long-winded Yawp. Life with him is never boring!

The Best Birthday Ever

Birthdays, like most anniversaries, are fabulous opportunities for reflection. It was my birthday last year when I first heard Myles's heartbeat. That moment, holding Mason's hand, was so completely perfect that I knew I was receiving the greatest gift of my life. 1 year, 1 pregnancy,1 delivery, and 1 "4th trimester" later and I can say that this last year was transformational. What does the next year bring? I don't know, but I can say we got off to a great start.

Last night the family celebrated.

We arrived at Playgrounds cafe for drinks and appetizers (read: tea and veggie plate). Myles came ready to party!

After hanging out in their posh play area, we strolled down the way to enjoy a delicious dinner (Subways) where the dining area was so intimate we felt free to dance to the music and delight at the beautiful lights.

From there we headed home to play drinking games (rootbeer and beer) while watching the season finale to Terminator.

Then it was off to sleep. Where I laid close to my sweet boys and just listened to Myles's heart for old time sake.

Four Months And Counting!

A couple of weeks ago, Myles had his 4-month checkup at the doctor. It was a little difficult, as it was the second stage of his immunizations (it's amazing how big those needles look next to such a little body), but it's always exciting to find out about Myles's status in his progression towards full-sizedness.

For a little visual status, here's what he looked like at 1 week:

...and here's what he looked like 4 months later:

As you can see, he's grown a bit. His numbers reflected this obvious change, putting him at 17lbs 1/2oz and 26 3/4 inches.
As I type this, he's wearing a 12-month old's shirt, and I'm really hoping he slows down some time 'cuz they don't make child seats for 200-pounders.
At least if I don't make it to the gym, I can still get a workout after a few minutes of the "UP!" game.

He's getting to be a real music-lover now, too. He smiles and "sings" along with me as I sing him "Folsom Prison Blues" on the changing table, and last night he was hopping along to some jazz with Miles the Crocodile.

It's been motivating for me to bust out the guitar and try to learn some new and entertaining songs for him too. And he doesn't even mind when I mess up, since I've never really played anything that wasn't power chords on a stratocaster before.

This last week, we had some visitors. Allyson's Goddaughter, Ella, and her mother, Dr. Evelyn were up celebrating a recently completed dissertation.

And now that spring is in the air, Myles has been getting out more and more:

Workin' in the yard with Momma.

Walkin' the dogs with Daddy.
